Beckman High School

This project involved the landscape development of a 40 acre high school campus to serve the cities of Irvine and Tustin. The facilities include a 50 meter pool complex, a football field, varsity and JV baseball, softball and multipurpose fields, basketball, tennis and handball courts, building courtyards, and site landscaping. An oveerall conceptual design was developed prior to preparation of construction documents. The irrigation system was designed for reclaimed water supplied by the Irvine Ranch Water District (IRWD) and utilizes one booster pump, capable of supplying 600 GPM to maximize watering capability within a short time period. A flow sensor monitors flow at the meter and shuts the system in the event of excess flow caused by line or head damage. The entire turf area of 20 acres was stolonized with ‘Tifgreen’ hybrid Bermuda to provide a durable playing surface and minimize water consumption. Close coordination was required to obtain approvals from the City, DSA, the Irvine Company and IRWD.
