Grove Avenue Grade Separation
This project involved the design of a 1-mile arterial street in the City of Ontario. It was at an under-crossing for the railroad tracks near Mission Avenue. CSI was responsible for design, construction drawings, and field observation of the landscape development of the median and parkways, including the slopes at the railroad bridge. A central control irrigation system operated by the City of Ontario irrigates the planting that includes drought tolerant and native plants.
The design concept for the median features the use of river rock, flowering shrubs, and colorful accent trees, while the design concept for the parkway features the use of stately Canary Island Date Palms with colorful accent shrubs below. A particular challenge was to provide an 8-foot walkway and bike path at mid-slope on either side of Grove Avenue in order to provide a safe pedestrian route along this busy street.
